NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE

Naturopathic Medicine is a distinct and integrated form of primary health care that allows the Naturopathic Doctor to work in conjunction with the patient to assess, diagnose, treat and prevent disease.  It focuses on finding the underlying causes that result in the development of disease and promotes well-being using therapeutics that support and enhance a patients overall health.

NATUROPATHIC PRINCIPLES

There are six principles that guide the practice of Naturopathic Medicine:

FIRST DO NO HARM
Naturopathic Medicine is a gentle and natural approach to health care. Treatment methods and remedies are carefully chosen to minimize the risk of harmful side effects.

THE HEALING POWER OF NATURE
Health is a natural state of being. Naturopathic Medicine strives to support and strengthen your natural ability to restore health and balance to your body, mind and spirit, and to prevent further disease.

IDENTIFY AND TREAT THE ROOT CAUSE OF DISEASE
Naturopathic Medicine aims to discover and treat the underlying cause of illness (e.g. diet, food allergies, biochemical processing, nutritional deficiencies, lifestyle habits, life events, emotional conflicts and environment stressors) instead of suppressing the presenting symptoms.

TREAT THE WHOLE PERSON AS AN INDIVIDUAL
Every human being is a unique individual. Accordingly, Naturopathic Medicine treats each patient differently and takes your unique physical, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, social, spiritual and nutritional symptoms into account.

DOCTOR AS TEACHER
The word Doctor comes from a Latin word, Docere, which means to teach. Naturopathic Medicine provides you with information regarding your assessment, diagnosis, and treatment prognosis, so that you may understand the process of health and wellness.

TEACH DISEASE PREVENTION AND HEALTH PROMOTION
Naturopathic Medicine is a proactive approach to health care; it not only treats illness, but works to prevent disease and promote wellness by addressing your specific daily habits, disease risk factors, nutritional deficiencies and emotional concerns.
